These two powerful performers of the Cuban Son represent the roots of the genre... What is emerging from this is a sublime duo, a subtle combination of two utmost artistic styles. A man and a women who both grow up and lived with and for the Afro Cuban music.

Mazacote was born in 1927 in Guanabacoa. He is a living legend - member of the AfroCuban All-Stars - who was part of major bands during the Golden Era of the casinos and nightclubs in La Havana, such as the Conjunto Supremo de Berto Ramos, Conjunto Bolero de Felix Chappottín and La Charanga de Neno González.

Maria Ochoa was Born in 1944 in Gran Piedra. She was schooled in the artistic ferment of the local casa de trova ("troubadour"), where she was performing alongside her wordlwide famous brother Eliades Ochoa. The first lady of Cuban country music comes from where the "son" (the foundation, the base of all Cuban music) was born: Santiago de Cuba.

These unpretentious singers who communicates a tremendous enthusiasm to their audience seems to be singing out of sheer love. Their raspy, dynamic attack enhance the passionate vocal qualities and deliver some inspired pregones (improvisations) over irresistible rhythms such as guajira, guaracha, bolero-cha, son montuno, mambo...

With them, a new generation of Cuban musicians from the Brussels's based band La Sonora Cubana. The group, lead by Chuchi Rivera fuses the genres that constitute the direct antecedents of the son with a more contemporary style, using the creativity, talent and heart of each ensemble member.

By featuring those two jewels, La Sonora Cubana fulfills its mission to spread the soul of the Cuban "son" all over the world. The project offers an unique chance to discover the performances of two amazing voices, in a combination never made possible before: Mazacote and Maria Ochoa... in the most danceable way! A gozar!
